Free Copy of SQL Cookbook, 2nd Edition from O’Reilly Media

Michelle Brinich

We are excited to have teamed up with O’Reilly Media to offer developers a free copy of the SQL Cookbook, 2nd Edition. SQL remains the lingua franca of the relational database world. But where do you turn when you have questions you need to answer in your day-to-day use of the query language? Let the new SQL Cookbook, 2nd Edition be your new go-to guide for all things SQL. Previously available in a preview version, the SQL Cookbook, 2nd Edition has now been polished, published, and is now available in its final format.

The SQL cookbook starts with the basics, then progresses to advanced topics. It’s organized in a problem/solution format. Plus, you can get help and advice in several flavors of SQL—including Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

And if you like SQL, you may like a distributed RDBMS with full SQL support like YugabyteDB so that you can easily scale out. YugabyteDB is a cloud native, PostgreSQL-compatible distributed SQL database for powering global, internet-scale applications. Reusing PostgreSQL’s native query layer instead of writing a new PostgresQL-compatible query layer has been one of the best design decisions we have made in YugabyteDB. The YSQL API is built by reusing the PostgreSQL code (version 11.2) directly, and therefore supports most of the features of a traditional RDBMS, such as joins, partial indexes, triggers, and stored procedures.

Having a YSQL API that implements the same wire protocol, data modeling capabilities, and query capabilities as that of PostgreSQL means developers can easily get started using knowledge and skills they are already comfortable with and make use of existing tools and integrations.

As you’re using your SQL Cookbook, you can easily apply your SQL skills to YugabyteDB’s distributed SQL database, too. If you’re not yet familiar with YugabyteDB, we invite you to:
