As we wrap up another month (how is it almost May?!), we are excited to announce the latest enhancements to YugabyteDB Managed, the fully managed database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offering of the YugabyteDB database.

Embrace New Security Flexibility

We understand the need for enhanced data protection and compliance with regulatory requirements, which is why we’re excited to introduce the preview of Customer Managed Key (CMK) encryption for data at rest in your YugabyteDB Managed clusters. With CMK encryption, you manage your own encryption keys, giving you the ability to encrypt your data at rest with keys that you control.
YugabyteDB Managed has a comprehensive feature set to ensure the security and privacy of your data. Adding the new Customer Managed Keys (CMK) with AWS KMS gives you complete control over the security of your data in the cloud. This is in addition to all the other benefits —global availability, scalability, reliability, cost-efficiency, and more.

With Customer Managed Keys, you retain full control over your encryption, adding an extra layer of data security along with the volume encryption provided by your Cloud Service Provider. Encrypt your data at rest and manage the encryption keys’ lifecycle (i.e. creating, revoking, etc.), monitoring usage, and ensuring only authorized parties can access them. Mange it all with just a few clicks using our user-friendly interface, our powerful command line interface options, or via the YugabyteDB Managed API.
The Customer Managed Keys solution allows you to avoid vendor lock-in and seamlessly integrate your existing encryption procedures and key management solutions from AWS. The BYOK solution also provides a cost-effective, scalable, and secure data protection option alongside the power and scalability of YugabyteDB Managed.

As the only distributed SQL vendor supporting AWS Graviton and listed as an official AWS Graviton partner, we are thrilled to announce that the YugabyteDB Managed Free Tier is now powered by Graviton-based instance types on AWS.
