Distributed SQL Change Management Using Liquibase-YugabyteDB Extension

Distributed SQL Change Management Using Liquibase-YugabyteDB Extension

Liquibase is an open source and extensible change management project that supports a variety of databases including Snowflake, MySQL, and PostgreSQL via JDBC. Liquibase allows users to easily define changes in SQL, XML, JSON, and YAML. These changes are then managed in a version control system so the changes can be documented, ordered, and standardized. For more information on the features and benefits of Liquibase, check out their documentation site.

YugabyteDB on OKE (Oracle Cloud Kubernetes)

YugabyteDB on OKE (Oracle Cloud Kubernetes)

We have documented how to install YugabyteDB on the main cloud providers (https://docs.yugabyte.com/latest/deploy/public-clouds). And when I joined Yugabyte, many friends from the oracle community asked me about the Oracle Cloud (OCI).

In the Oracle Cloud there are 2 ways to run containers:

  • Do-It-Yourself with IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
Obviously, you can provision some compute instances (and network and storage) running Docker and install Kubernetes (or other orchestration).

Spring Data YugabyteDB – Getting Started!

Spring Data YugabyteDB – Getting Started!

Spring Data modules are widely used Spring Framework projects for implementing database access in Java applications. Spring Data provides consistent and familiar APIs for querying the data by supporting Data Repository and Template methods, reducing the boilerplate code required for establishing database connection and queries.

For developers and architects, the standard set of APIs provided by Spring Data abstracts away the need to learn the database-specific query language, reducing ramp-up time and increasing developer velocity.

Migrating MySQL to YugabyteDB Using pgloader

Migrating MySQL to YugabyteDB Using pgloader

We understand that database migrations can be painful. We have helped users successfully migrate from MySQL to YugabyteDB, a PostgreSQL-compatible distributed SQL database. A very popular tool to accomplish this task is pgloader. In this post, we will cover how to migrate both your MySQL schema as well as data to YugabyteDB.

Prerequisites

Before starting the migration there are a few prerequisites you’ll need to address.

The YugabyteDB Vagrant Box

The YugabyteDB Vagrant Box

Using Vagrant, anyone running Windows, Linux or Mac OS X can run and test drive a YugabyteDB cluster without the need to install and configure YugabyteDB. Plus, you can start over if you want to test something different in a matter of minutes, or scale up the cluster, etc.

Please mind that the Vagrant images are non-official images for demo and test purposes, and not configured nor representative for performance.

This is how it works (Mac OS X):
