Using Envoy Proxy’s PostgreSQL & TCP Filters to Collect Yugabyte SQL Statistics

Using Envoy Proxy’s PostgreSQL & TCP Filters to Collect Yugabyte SQL Statistics

Layer 7 proxies like NGINX and HAProxy have been popular since the mid-2000s. The term “proxy” refers to their role as an intermediary for the traffic between an application client and an application server. The “layer 7” classification comes from the fact that these proxies take routing decisions based on URLs, IPs, TCP/UDP ports, cookies, or any information present in messages sent over a layer 7 (aka application layer) networking protocol like HTTP and gRPC.

Introducing yugabyted, the Simplest Way to Get Started with YugabyteDB

Users familiar with YugabyteDB’s architecture know that it is based on two servers where cluster metadata storage and administrative operations are managed by a YB-Master metadata server that is independent from the YB-TServer database server. The end result is that the YB-Master server can be configured and tuned (in a manner that is completely isolated from YB-TServer) to achieve higher performance and faster resilience than a single-server architecture. However, the need for these two servers to come together in a cluster increases the mental burden on a new user who wants to experience the database’s benefits in the shortest time possible.

Why We Built YugabyteDB by Reusing the PostgreSQL Query Layer

Why We Built YugabyteDB by Reusing the PostgreSQL Query Layer

Reusing PostgreSQL’s native query layer instead of writing a new Postgresql-compatible query layer ground up has been one of the best design decisions we have made in YugabyteDB. As outlined in the challenges we faced building a distributed SQL database, we have battle scars to prove this insight – we started writing a PostgreSQL-compatible query layer from scratch before realizing that we simply cannot build the world’s best cloud native RDBMS in a timely manner if we persist down this path.

Open Source Geo-Distributed Relational Database on Multi-Cluster Kubernetes

Google Spanner, conceived in 2007 for internal use in Google AdWords, has been rightly considered a marvel of modern software engineering. This is because it is the world’s first horizontally-scalable relational database that can be stretched not only across multiple nodes in a single data center but also across multiple geo-distributed data centers, without compromising ACID transactional guarantees. In 2012,

YugabyteDB 2.1 is GA: Scaling New Heights with Distributed SQL

Team Yugabyte is excited to announce the general availability of YugabyteDB 2.1! The highlight of this release is that Yugabyte SQL (YSQL), YugabyteDB’s PostgreSQL-compatible API, has not only improved performance 10x since the 2.0 release in September 2019 but is also production ready for multiple geo-distributed deployment scenarios. For those of you who are new to distributed SQL, YugabyteDB is a Google Spanner-inspired, cloud native distributed SQL database that is 100% open source.

Announcing YugabyteDB on Crossplane, the Open Source Multicloud Control Plane

We are excited to announce that YugabyteDB is now available as a self-managed database service on Crossplane, the open-source multicloud control plane. Built on top of our recent Rook Kubernetes Operator for YugabyteDB, this offering makes YugabyteDB one of the first distributed SQL databases available on Crossplane.

Benefits of the Joint Solution

With Crossplane as the single control plane, users can provision and manage multiple YugabyteDB clusters across Google Kubernetes Engine,
