After officially launching Yugabyte University in early 2022, we are happy to share a major milestone! Ten thousand amazing students are enrolled in various self-paced and instructor-led courses, certification programs, and builder workshops to better build their skillsets around distributed SQL and YugabyteDB. The YugabyteDB community is at the heart of everything we do at Yugabyte. The worldwide community of open source enthusiasts, application builders, and database aficionados has been a fountain of inspiration, knowledge, and belonging for us. Here are some community highlights we’d love to call out.
We planned to celebrate when we reached 5,000 YugabyteDB Community Slack members. But then we blinked and realized we were already over 5,500!
We started off 2021 strong with exciting announcements, including:
- The launch of Yugabyte University including free training and certification options
- A successful Distributed SQL Summit Asia event, with 35 amazing speakers across 3 days
- A $48M round of funding to accelerate all distributed SQL activities across the board
- YugabyteDB turns 5 years old and Karthik Ranganathan, CTO and Co-Founder,

In this 90 min training aimed at beginner and intermediate SQL developers, we covered the following topics:
- YugabyteDB review and setup
- UDFs, expressions, and operators
We worked through over 40 exercises that showed how developers can immediately leverage their PostgreSQL knowledge and apply it to YugabyteDB.
