INSERT INTO Yugabyte (We’re Hiring, April 2020)

Since our last hiring post, a lot has changed in the world around us (and even that is an understatement). The coronavirus is having a devastating effect on people and communities around the globe. Now more than a million people have gotten sick (or worse), many others are economically impacted, losing jobs, businesses are shutting down, and activities we perhaps once took for granted–everything from dining out, to birthday celebrations, or visiting loved ones–are either no longer happening or are dramatically different.

Andrew Nelson: Why I Joined Yugabyte as a Developer Advocate

Andrew Nelson: Why I Joined Yugabyte as a Developer Advocate

I recently joined Yugabyte as a Developer Advocate focused on Kubernetes. I will focus on the usability and extensibility of YugabyteDB as a data platform within the Kubernetes and public cloud ecosystem. However, in broader terms, I will be able to leverage YugabyteDB as a cloud-native database that can easily deployed in multi-cloud environments. There are a few things I am looking forward to in my new role:

  • Working for another fast-growing startup
  • Being able to leverage my skills in Kubernetes
  • Learning more about a next-generation database at the ground floor
  • Working for an open-source company

When I was graduating from college with a degree in Software Engineering,

Why We Changed YugabyteDB Licensing to 100% Open Source

Why We Changed YugabyteDB Licensing to 100% Open Source

We are excited to announce that YugabyteDB is now 100% open source under the Apache 2.0 license. This means previously closed-source, commercial, enterprise features such as Distributed Backups, Data Encryption, and Read Replicas are now available in the open source project and are completely free to use. The same applies to upcoming new features like Change Data Capture and 2 Data Center Deployments. The result of this change is that we no longer have a Community Edition and an Enterprise Edition of YugabyteDB.

Recapping YugaByte’s 2018 Milestones and a Preview of the 2019 Roadmap

Recapping YugaByte’s 2018 Milestones and a Preview of the 2019 Roadmap

After launching YugabyteDB in November 2017, Team YugaByte celebrated 2018 as its first full year in the market as a cloud native, transactional database company. Exhilarating is the one word that best summarizes our 2018 experience. From a product and engineering standpoint, we launched two major releases (and tens of minor releases) and saw users adopt each of the releases at an amazing pace. This story of exceeded expectations repeated itself at every other function in the company whether it be sales,
